8th Hackathon

What is a Hackathon

  •  A hackathon is an innovation competition where people come together to solve a challenge.
  • Usually lasts 24 hours or takes place over a weekend
  • Hackers arrive in event, pitch their ideas, design and build their product in teams, and demo what they built (software, hardware, workflow, process, etc.)
  • Winner is selected by panels

Theme: AI in action

Theme: AI in action

  • AI in action often includes systems that can process data in real-time, adapt to new information, and make autonomous decisions. Examples include autonomous vehicles navigating streets, real-time fraud detection in banking, and personalized recommendations on streaming platforms.
  • All potential starting points for your project
  • Think about: target user demographics (age, needs, personal background, etc)
  • Be creative! Judges will be looking for originality, innovation, and completion of the project. More details on judging later.

Theme: AI in action

  •  Individual/team: A team can have 1-4 members. Please note that changes to team structure will not be encouraged after registration.
  • Registration Deadline: 11:00 PM June 8th, 2025. When you submit your project, please provide your project name or team name, and the names of all your team members. 
  • Zoom: We will email you the hackathon zoom link along with the team presentation order by 8 pm PDT on June 13th, 2025
  • Ideas: You are expected to come up with your own innovative ideas. Any ideas that have been copied or borrowed from any source including but not limited to internet sources may not be considered for the finale. 
  • Materials: include your team name, member name(s), video link and/or powerpoint (with the proper sharing settings) in an email to us
  • Presentation: 5 minutes long + 2 minute Q&A

  •  Relevance (30 points): How well does the solution address the key challenge presented?
  • Originality (20 points): How original is the idea solving the problem?
  • Ease of Understanding and Use (10 points): How user-friendly is your solution? How well does it solve the problem?
  • Solution Completeness (10 points): How developed is the idea? (idea, prototype, finished product?)
  • Implementable (10 points): How easy to implement the solution?
  • Presentation and Passion (20 points): How is the presentation? Is the team excited and passionate about solving a problem?

Hackathon Information

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the deadline for registration and project submission for San Ramon Hackathon?

The Registration deadline has been postponed to June 10, 2025. The project submission deadline is 5:00 pm PDT, June 13, 2025.

Is the Hackathon online or in-person?

Hackathon will be held online from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm on June 14, 2025. The Zoom link will be emailed to participants after 8:00 pm PDT on June 13th, 2025, along with presentation order. The team presentation order will be randomly drawn.

Do I have to personally join the Zoom event to participant in?

No. If you are unable to attend the Hackathon presentation, you can submit a video to Hack.a.Tech@GreenAppleUS.org before the deadline. We will play your video to the judges and let you know the results. 

How can participannt submit the project ppt and video?

Submit your project via email: hack.a.tech@GreennAppleUS.org. Following information need to be included in your email:

 - Your Project or Team name

-   Team member's name

- URL link to your project PPT or Video


Please note that you can modify your PPT and Video after your submission. You can present the latest version of PPT on Hackathon day.

Is there a Hackathon theme for everyone or do participant can pick their own topics?

This year's Hackathon theme is "AI in Action". You can present project with the topic of your own. However, you will lose some points.

Does the participant need to submit video only or video + ppt , or video + ppt + software code too?

Participant only need to submit either PPT or a Participants video. No need to submit both or code.

Does participant require to work in a team?

No. Participant can join Hackathon either with team or individual.

Will all the team members be required to attend Hackathon?

No. However, you will earn extra points if the entire team show up during the presentation.

Any time limit for video?

We recommend the video is less than 3 minutes. The total presentation time for each team is 5 minutes.

If team can join the presentation meeting, do they need to submit PPT or video?

We require partcipants to submit ppt or video with at least following information by submission deadline:

 - Must submit Project Title 

 - List of team members


Video is optional. We encourage you to present your project in-person vis zoom. In-Person presentation will earn more points.

What's the registration fee? How do parpicipants pay the registration fee?

$10 registration fee per team member.
